Boy's Varsity Basketball

Basketball Practice Is Underway

Monday September 26 basketball practice at Calvary Christian High School officially started.  The practice was held at Indiana Bible College.  It was a very exciting first practice.  In the second practice on Wednesday the players ran a mile before anything else.  During practice there was alot of vigorous conditioning drills.  Inbetween drills players would shoot free-throws because coach Purcell believes that this is a very important piece in winning games this year.  At the end of practice the players finished with "suicides" (running drills) and players would shoot free-throws to end practice.  It seemed simple if they hit their free-throw they wouldn't have to run anymore but if they miss they would continue.  First up was Jarred Turner, he missed his attempt so they ran another.  Next, Alex "Free-Throw" Golden was up, unfortunately he missed his attempt too.  The next player was Toby Elsey, of course like always he missed the shot so it was back to the line for more running.  Next up was Jacob Farello, everyone was confidant he was going to hit but he missed long off the rim.  Finally Sam Sluis stepped up to the line and nailed the free-throw under pressure to finally end the runnning.  I don't think Coach Purcell was very impressed with the teams free-throw performance at the end of the practice, expect alot of free-throws to be shot during practice next Tuesday.

Going For It All

This year players and coaches alike at Calvary are planning to win this year... and win alot.  Some players are already saying that the team should go undefeated this year.  The team seems very much in tact and ready to play.  Teamates this year have been working to achieve excellent team chemistry by playing together in pick-up games every Tuesday night. Who knows what to expect when you lose a key player like Gregg Ash.  Simon Reinking is going to be expected to lead this team in distributing the ball this season and seems very ready to do so.  Also Jake Sluis seems ready to play this year since he has worked constantly on his shooting and monsterous rebounding. But who knows how it will go since they picked up that horrible player Toby Elsey.  I think this kid will not do anything this season but suck it up.
